System established for pilots and ATS personnel to visualize an assigned route

Downwind leg
Base leg
Final approach leg
Crosswind leg
Departure and overshoot path
Upwind side
Downwind leg
Flight path parallel to the landing runway, in opposite direction to landing
Base leg
Flight path from the end of downwind leg to the centreline of the approach end of the landing runway
Final approach leg
Flight path extending from the end of the base leg in the direction of landing to and extending along the extended centreline of the runway to the threshold of the landing runway
Crosswind leg
Path joining departure leg to the downwind leg
Can also be the path joining upwind side to the downwind side
Departure and overshoot path
Extends from departure end of the runway to the point aircraft reaches 500ft AGL and begins the crosswind leg
Upwind side
Area on opposite side of the landing runway from downwind leg
Clearance limit
Point to which the aircraft is granted ATC clearance
