The stimulants have potential for growth suppression ( i.e. Record weight and height monthly)
What are the side effects of stimulants.
Headache, insomnia,
hallucinations,
seizures,
growth suppression, anorexia, weigh loss,
glassy eye rapid involuntary eye movement, zombie like effect
1st line agent for treatment of ADHD?
Stimulants (3-4 week trial) if improve continue 6-12 months.
No improve or No tolerate- switch another stimulant
If patient has risk of diverting stimulants . What to use?
Agents with less abuse potential
Atomoxetine
Guanfacine
Major side efects of atomoxetine
suicide idea
sudden cardic death
liver toxicity
What antidepressents can be taken as 2nd or 3rd line in patients with ADHD?
Bupropion (NDRI)
Venlafaxine ( SNRI)
TCA
What ADHD symptoms are affected by SGAs ( Risperidone)?
Affects behaviour symptoms like hyperactivity and impulsivness.
