8. Correlation AO1 Flashcards
What is a correlations?
An association between two co-variables
What represents the strength of the correlation?
Correlation coefficient
What is correlation coefficient,
Statistical tests of correlation produce a numerical value somewhere between -1 and +1 - tells us the strength of the relationship between two variables
What increases the close you get to 1 or 0?
1 - The stronger the relationship between co-variables
0 - the weaker the relationship
What does correlation coefficient represent?
The direction of the correlation
What does the sign inform us of?
The direction of the correlation
How are correlation coefficients calculated?
Using an inferential test such as Pearson’s or Spearman’s
What does the letter ‘r’ stand for?
Correlation coefficient
