What is quantitative data?
Numerical data e.g. Reaction time
What is qualitative data?
Non-numerical data expressed in words e.g. Extract from a diary
What is primary data?
‘First hand’ data collected for the purpose of the investigation
What is secondary data?
Collected by someone other than the person who is conducting this research e.g. Taken from books or websites
What is meta-analyse?
A type of secondary data that involved combining data from a large number of studies - calculation of effect size
What is the mean?
Average - add up all the scores and divide by the number of scores
What is the median?
Middle value - place scores in ascending order and select middle value (if two values calculate mean)
What is the mode?
Most frequent or common value - used with categorical/nominal data
What is the range?
The difference between highest to lowest value
What is standard deviation?
Measure of the average spread around the mean, the larger the standard deviation, the more spread out the data are
