A strength of questionnaires
Can distribute to large numbers - gather large amounts of data quickly - researcher doesn’t have to be present - reduces effort - more cost effective
A weakness of questionnaires
Respondents may not be truthful - people present themselves in positive light - social desirability bias possible
A strength of structured interviews
Easy to replicate - standardised format - format also reduces individual differences
A weakness of structured interviews
Interviewees can’t elaborate - can’t deviate from topic - could be source of frustration
A strength of unstructured interviews
Greater flexibility - points can be followed up - more likely to gain insight of participant
A weakness of unstructured interviews
Difficult to replicate - lack structure and not standardised - risk of interviewer bias
A strength of closed questions
Easier to analyse - can produce graphs & charts to compare - easier to draw conclusions
A weakness of closed questions
Respondents restricted - forced into answer - may not be representative of true feelings - may reduce validity of findings
A strength of open questions
Respondents not restricted - more detailed answers - more validity

Harder to analyse - wider variety of answers - produced by quantitive data - forced to reduce data to statistics
