UR unconditioned responses
stimuli that elicit responses naturally
e.g. coughing, salivation
stimuli that elicit responses naturally

NS neutral stimulus
stimulus which initially produces no specific response

CS conditioned stimulus
a previously neutral stimulus that has been paired with an unconditioned stimulus

CR conditioned response
a learned response to the conditioned stimulus

Respondent conditioning
a process in which a neutral stimulus is paired with an unconditioned stimulus. As a result of pairing the neutral stimulus with the US, the neutral stimulus becomes a conditioned stimulus that will elicit a response similar to the UR.
a process in which a neutral stimulus is paired with an unconditioned stimulus.
respondent conditioning
conditioned emotional responses
a type of conditioned response in which an emotional response such as fear, anger, or happiness is elicited by a conditioned stimulus in the process of respondent conditioning
a type of conditioned response in which an emotional response such as fear, anger, or happiness is elicited by a conditioned stimulus in the process of respondent conditioning
conditioned emotional responses
respondent extinction
The process by which, when a conditioned stimulus is no longer paired with an unconditioned stimulus, the CS gradually ceases to elicit the conditioned response
