7.4 Flashcards
whats the order of stages in CR?
glycolysis, link reaction, krebs cycle, ETC
what are the inputs and outputs of glycolysis?
inputs: glucose, ADP, NAD+
outputs: pyruvate, 2 ATP, NADH
what are the inputs and outputs of link reaction?
inputs: pyruvate, CoA, NAD+
outputs: AcetylCoA, CO2, NADH
what are the inputs and outputs of the krebs cycle?
inputs: acetylCoa, ADP, NAD+, FAD
outputs: CO2, NADH, FADH2, 2 ATP
what are the inputs and outputs of the electron transport chain?
inputs: NAD+, FADH2, ADP, O2
outputs: ATP, H2O, FAD+, NAD+
where does glycolysis happen?
cytoplasm
where does the krebs cycle happen?
matrix
where is the electron chain located?
inner membrane
what is the overall equation for CR?
C6H12O6 + 6O2 –> 6CO2 + 6H2O + ATP
what happens when there’s no oxygen available?
the krebs cycle and the ETC cannot function, so fermentation happens. This repeats glycolysis.
does the presence of oxygen increase or decrease the amount of ATP produced
the presence of oxygen increases the amount of ATP produced because during anaerobic CR, only glycolysis and fermentation happen, which only produces 2 total ATP. With the presence of oxygen, glycolysis, krebs cycle, and ETC can happen, which produces ~34 ATP.
why do folds in the inner membrane increase ATP production?
the folds increase the surface area, therefore more space for the ETC, and more reactions, more ATP
where does link reaction happen?
mitochondria
