4.3 Flashcards
GHG
gases that absorb infrared light and emits it back into the atmosphere as heat
what are the three main GHG
water vapor, methane, nitrous oxide, and co2
albedo
the percent of light being reflected
how does water vapor effect temp and GHE
water vapor is the largest overall contributer to the radiative forcing of GHG, has a significant effect on temperature
what is the water vapor feedback loop
when temp increases, evaopration increases, the amount of water vapor increases, which makes the amount of infrared light absorbed higher, which increases the temp even more.
what do ice cores do
they help us measure climate conditions in the past
what can CO2 levels in ice be used for
they can be used to measure GHG levels in the past
what is a feedback loop
a circuit like system where an initial disturbance acts as an input into the system, creating what’s called an output, which affects the initial disturbance.
positive feedback loop
output amplifies initial disturbance
negative feedback loop
output restricts initial disturbance
