6.1 - molecules Flashcards
Which molecules are polar?
Hydroxyl, carbonyl, & sulfhydryl.
What molecule is nonpolar?
Methyl
What molecule has a positive charge?
Amino
What molecules have a negative charge?
Phosphate & carboxyl
What is an isomer?
Isomers are molecules that have the same chemical formula but different structures/build.
What happens during dehydration synthesis?
Water is created from an O & H atom on two different molecules. As they combine, they pull away from the molecules forcing them to merge.
What happens during hydrosis?
Water is shoved back into the molecules, causing them to seperate and return to how they were before dehydration synthesis.
What is the relationship between monomers and polymers?
Monomers are so small, almost like legos. Together, they create ‘lego’ masterpieces or polymers.
