2.3 study guide - human population growth Flashcards
What happens in the first stage of the demographic transition?
In stage one, there is a stage increase in birth, and the death rate isn’t as high. This does not have a big impact on the birth rate.
What happens in the third stage of demographic transition?
The birth rate slows, and decreases. The death rate does not increase, therefore this does not affect the growth rate.
What happens in the second stage of demographic transition?
In stage two, there is a big increase in the birth rate, and a huge decrease for the death rate. This does not affect the growth rate.
What happens in the fourth stage of demographic transition?
The birth rate and death rate are very similar. There is no dramatic increase in either, therefore leading to no affect.
What happens in the fifth stage of demographic transition?
The birth rate will slowly start to grow, leading the death rate to slowly decline. The population will start to climb again.
What age range is also known as “pre-reproductive?”
0-14.
What age range is also known as “reproductive?”
15-44.
What age range is also known as “post-reproductive?”
44-85+.
What is the difference between a developing country, and a developed country?
A developing country is a country that is fairly new. They are countries that are until a few years old, and still have people settling down. A developed country is a country that has been around for a while, and has a counsitant population that is sticking around and reproducing. A developing country will have a faster growth rate than a developed country.
What factors can a country ingage in to run through the stages quicker?
Some of the factors include: family planning, maternal and child healthcare, education, labor market, and women empowerment.
