4.3 ecology Flashcards
Greenhouse affect
The trapping of sunlight and infrared light to warm the earth.
Greenhouse gases
Gases that are found in the atmosphere that trap the sunlight/infrared light.
Positive feedback loop
When the input increases the effect that is expected.
What do greenhouse gases do?
Trap sunlight and infrared light to create heat for the earth.
Negative feedback loop
When the input decreases the effect expected.
Why is the greenhouse effect important?
It helps trap heat from sunlight to warm the earth.
How have humans affected the greenhouse effect?
With the excess burning of fossil fuels, we’ve increased the amount of greenhouse gases, therefore increasing the temperature of the earth.
What do ice cores tell us about the patterns of Co2 and temperature?
The levels of iceotops that are found in each level show the temperature, and temperature correlates with the amount of Co2. If the temperature is high, then there was a lot of Co2.
