4.2 ecology Flashcards
Nitrogen Fixation
Any natural process that creates/causes free nitrogen.
Nitrification
The process of bacteria changing the compounds in nitrogen
Denitrification
Converting nitrogen compounds intpo gasesous forms.
Photosynthesis inuputs and outputs:
Sunglight + Water + NO2 –> O2 + Glucose (Sugars)
Cellular Resiperatipon inputs and outputs:
O2 + Glucose (Sugars) –> Sunlight + Water + NO2
What type of organisms perform the processes of photosynthesis and cellular respiration?
Plants
How humans affect the carbon and nitrogen cycles?
By the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation.
How does a BTB work?
A BTB works by detecting CO2 in water. It turns from the starting color of blue and turns to yellow whenever an acid reacts with it. The levels corespond with how fast the transition of the colors are.
Differentiate between how energy and how carbon flow through a food chain.
Energy is a one way street when it goes through multiple organisms. Carbon can be recylced at anytime in the food chain.
