LZ crews shall wear
Full bunker gear including SCBA, eye protection and high visibility vest. Secure chin strap when working around main rotor
Minimum LZ size in daylight and good weather
80’ x 80’
Minimum LZ at night or diminished weather conditions
100’ x 100’
Maximum acceptable ground slope for LZ
10-12 degrees
The helicopter will not land if
LZ Officer is not established and LZ not properly marked
LZ Officer wearing full PPE w/ vest will take position
In center of LZ until pilot recognizes him, then reposition immediately beyond perimieter
LZ Officer should provide the following to the airraft
- Location of LZ
- # of patients
- wind direction and speed
- description of LZ and all surrounding hazards
- special instructions or hazards
During final approach of aircraft, LZ officer shall advise
“All units clear channel; no radio traffic; aircraft on final approach”
Words used to halt unsafe landing conditions
“ABORT ABORT ABORT”
If unable to communicate over radio, what is hand signal to abort a landing
Wave arms over your head so they cross each other
During lift-off the LZ Officer should observe aircraft for
open compartments, smoke/fire from exhaust, loose engine covers
Always approach the helicopter from the
