5.7 Design Documentation Flashcards
In UI design, what are patterns?
Reusable solutions to common, recurring problems
How can you as a UX designer benefit greatly from knowing how to use patterns?
They can save you a lot of time and help ensure consistency in your work.
What are some examples of patterns?
Navigation systems, forms, and checkout processes
What is a pattern library?
A collection of UI patterns. They share information about the pattern, context of use, and how they work
How do designers use pattern libraries?
They use libraries as references and sources of inspiration when they work.
They won’t go in and take the solution being showcased but will rather check out what others have done, think through what they can learn from them, and create a solution that reflects this process.
What is a style guide?
A set of standards designed to help safeguard the integrity of a design.
Think of them as manuals that provide details on all the pieces used to create a product and the different rules you need to follow to use them correctly.
What is the main difference between style guides and pattern libraries?
Style guides include every element used on a product, not just the patterns. What gets included in a style guide is determined by a project’s size and type.
In UI, what do style guides generally cover?
Typography, colors, UI elements and styles, imagery/illustration, icons, copy/language guidelines, other dos and donts
