5.3 Flashcards
What is a London Dispersion bond?
A Temporary bond where the electrons are moved.
It is the weakest bond type.
What is a hydrogen bond?
A bond between hydrogen and Nitrogen, Oxygen, or Fluorine. It is the strongest bond type
What is a dipole dipole bond?
where a negative and positive charge come together
what is electronegativity?
the force of attraction for atoms to gain new electrons.
why do water and oil not bond or mix?
they don’t share a Hydrogen bond and don’t have the option to.
Where do the bond dipoles point?
to the where the charge is headed or where the charge is the greatest.
What does it mean to be hydrophobic?
Hate water/ not bond with it
What does it mean to be hydrophilic?
Love water/ bonds well with water.
What atom sequence can be seen in a hydrophobic molecule.
No hydrogen or oxygen present.
