3.2 Flashcards
What is biodiversity?
the difference in life in an area.
What is a species’ richness?
How many organisms there are in a community
What is Primary succession?
when organisms inhabit and area and a community grows and develops
What is the difference between primary succession and secondary succession?
Primary succession happens first and then secondary succession happens after that. Secondary succession could happen if there was a catastrophic incident where a community is wiped out.
What are typically the first organisms to grow in primary succession?
smaller plants
What force of nature allows seeds to get to the new area?
Wind
What is a keystone species? Give an example.
A species that many other species depend on. An example would be bees, because they pollinate the surrounding flowers.
What is the species richness?
How many species there are in a community.
Is this primary or secondary succession?
The forest gets burnt down and the ecosystem has to start up again.
secondary- it was after it was already developed.
What is an invasive species?
Any species that is harming the community and it is a predator to everyone and prey to no one.
