2.2 Flashcards
What does K stand for? Define what it means.
K stands for carrying capacity, which is the highest population size that an area can support without degradation of habitat.
Where does logistical growth begin to level out?
At/near the carrying capacity
What are density-independent limiting factors?
They are factors that don’t require a high density population to cause a major impact.
How does N change when dN/dt is decreased?
The population will grow slower than it was before.
Where is N the highest in logistical growth?
At the carrying capacity (Top)
Where is dN/dt the highest in logistic growth?
In the middle where the line changes
What are the two types of limiting factors?
Density-independent and density-dependent
What happens to N after a few years when N0 differs in logistical growth?
If N0 went up, then N would get to K quicker. If it went down, it would take longer for N to get to carrying capacity.
What are the two things that add to a population?
Births and immigration
What are the two things that reduce a population?
Deaths and emigration
What does N0 stand for?
Original Population
What does r stand for?
maximum per Capita growth rate
