Bed rest
An intervention that restricts patients for therapeutic reasons
Bed rest prescribed less often as we know the benefits of movement. If it is percribed its for unimpeded rest prevent pain
Muscle atrophy is risk of bed bed (event in just a few days)
Fowler’s position
semi-sitting poistion with knees bent
supine position
lying face upward
prone position
person lies fast on their chest
side-lying position
lying on side with top leg semi-flexed and bent
Sims’ positon (semiprone)
patient lying face downwards, but with one or both knees flexed to one side so that the body is not lying completely flat
Ischemia
(inadequate blood supply to organ), pressure ulcer
Thrombus
(blood clot that attaches to vessel),
Embolus
(when a thrombis becomes loose)
pulmonary emboli (when an embolus travel to lungs)
deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
Atelectasis
(aveoli of lungs collapse, decrease in gas exchange) can’t cough properly and clear secretions
