36 - Exercise Flashcards
Body alignment
relationship of one body part to another along horizontal/vertical line
Muscle tone
– internal state of muscle tension within muscle
Activity tolerance
kind/amount of exercise/activity that individual can perform
Isotonic Contraction
cause muscle contraction/cjange in muscle length (walking, swimming)
Isometric Contraction
tightening/tensing muscles without moving body parts (pressing knee toward bend and holding)
resistive isometric exercises
contacts muscle while pushing against stationary object/resisting movement of object (plank, wall push ups)
Deconditioning
complex process of physiological change following a period of inactivity, bedrest or sedentary lifestyle.
Significant issue for people who are incapacitated
Both physical and mental (depression)
Less they move, the weaker they get
All body systems are impacted
FRAT
Fall risk assessment tool
contractures
permanent shortening of muscles that can shorten ligaments/tendons that eventually causes joint to become fixed in one position
