Explain Mark 4:26-29
He also said, “This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.”
What is a key feature of the kingdom of God?
It will grow greatly and people will be surpised by the rate it grows.
What did the sower not understand?
How the seed grew. All he knew is that it did.
What was the disciple’s responsibility to do?
ensure that the kingdom of God would grow and keep growing.
What idea was Jesus illustrating?
the idea that the kingdom grows whatever those who are working to bring it in do.
What is the harvest a metaphor for?
Judgement day
How is it a source of encouragement for persecuted Christians?
It assures them that despite feeling like their faith is going, it will grow and continue to grow because God wills it so.
