Explain the story of The crucifixion and Burial of Jesus
Simon of Cyrene carried Jesus’ cross for a bit. The romans brought Jesus to Golgotha. They crucified Him and divided His clothes among them.
It was 9 o’clock when they crucified Him. Next to Him were 2 bandits. People mocked Him. ‘You could save others, but not yourself’. They told Him to come down from the cross so they could see and believe. Those who were crucified with Him also taunted Him.
When it was noon, darkness came over the land until 3 o’clock in the afternoon. Jesus cried out. Someone noticed He was calling for Elijah and wanted to see what would happen. So they gave him some wine on a stick. Then, He died.
The curtain of the temple was torn in 2 from top to bottom. The centurion near Him said ‘Truly this man was God’s son’. Mary Magdalene and some other women were watching.
Joseph asked for Jesus’ body. Pilate granted this. Joseph wrapped Jesus’ bod in linen and laid it in a tomb.
What was crucifixion?
A common punishment used by Romans - particularly for those who had rebelled. The victim was left in agony to die.
What was the wine and myrrh used as?
a painkiller.
What did Jesus say before he died?
‘Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani’
‘My God, why have you forsaken me’
What does Jesus’ last words show?
In his final moments, he felt separated from God.
What does the curtain splitting show?
That Jesus had removed sin, the barrier between God and Humans.

Good Friday
Why was Jesus’ death important?
It was God’s plan
