  • people were encouraged to report anyone to the gestapo who they believed were anti Nazi
  • gestapo was aided by local wardens who would ensure that Germans were loyal to the local regime
  • most germans were prepared to accept the new regime either out of fear or because they agreed with the Nazis’ aims
