2A Transpiration and Stomata Flashcards
how does the light intensity affect the rate of transpiration
brighter=faster. Photosynthesis can’t happen in dark so stomata close as they don’t need to be open to let co2 in-less water loss
how does temp affect rate of transpiration
warmer=faster-more energy to evaporate
how does air flow affect rate os transpiration
better air flow=faster-water vapour swept away so low concentration in air
how does humidity affect the rate of transpiration
dier=faster- water vapour swept away so low concerntration in air
how do you calc the rate of transpiration
mm moved / minutes
whats the role of the stomata/guard cells in controlling gas exchange
two guard cells surround each stomata and when the plant has lots of water the guards cells fills up and go plump and turgid. The stomata opens so gases can be exchanged for photosynthesis. When plant is shot of water, guard cell becomes flaccid and closes stomata
