Why did it need doing?
A
- Decline of the dock lands led to the closure of many primary industries so unemployment was high in the Liverpool City Region
- Even after previous schemes, the city region still had derelict buildings and declining neighbourhoods with antisocial behaviour
- The change in industries left many without the ability to get new jobs in the new industry and without the income to move

What was the purpose/mission of the scheme?
A
- To build on core strengths and capacity for innovation to create a global and competitive city region at the heart of the Northern Powerhouse
- To attract and develop more businesses, to nurture and grow the talent base, to create more sustainable employment and high value jobs

- £264 million growth deal funding from the government

What has it achieved?
A
Invested £1 billion into schemes which has:
- Created 10,000 jobs and 8,000 apprenticeships
- Provided adult skills training for residents to help them get new jobs in the changed industry
- Supported cultural events
- Invested £500 million into publicly owned train system

What are the successes?
A
- To date, they’ve secured £336 million in funding from the government
- Johns created will retain money back into the local area and create a stronger sense of community
- Devolution means they can manage themselves from a local governance so can focus on the local needs more

What are the failures?
A
- The city region still contrains some of the most socially and economically disadvantaged neighbourhoods in the country.
- Compared to other cities with a similar population, the city region still has a gap in output
