- e.g. local scale. younger people have been leaving the town of Uckfield in East Sussex as they can’t afford the housing in the area
- e.g. International scale, concerns that large scale migration from North Africa to Europe has led to an altered gender balance

A
- flows of money and investment either by governments or businesses, can change demographic characteristics
- e.g. governments can invest money in specific places in order to attract people to live there
- e.g. London Docklands development corporation- group set up to redevelop Docklands area of London-> improved economy and built environment, increased in population

A
- ideas such as use of birth control can flow to new places and affect demographic characteristics
- e.g. by reducing birth rate and affecting population size
- e.g. many of the poorest countries in the world have the lowest usage of birth control and rapid population growth -> international organisations have been set up to spread knowledge and ideas about birth control

A
- new people moving to a place or visiting it bring their culture with them, which can change their characteristics
- mass migration
- e.g. in the 20th century the UK experienced mass international migrations from India, Pakistan and other Commonwealth countries -> created a multi-ethnic community- more langauges, religion and food

- new cultural ideas introduced to places can change characteristics of those places
- e.g. fast food companies from the USA opened restaurants in China in 1980s and 1990s and have grown rapidly since -> thought that eating habits have changed in China as a result
