Note: Cancel alarm for stolen vehicle after owner takes possession or after vehicle has been removed to property clerk division or rotow facility.
Each July, Operations Coordinator will ensure the previous calendar year’s filed Invoices will be placed in a box, labeled and sent to Property Clerk’s warehouse to be retained for 6 years.
What will DO do when any item listed on the PCI is missing?

*Contact Police Lab’s Evidence Control Supervisor prior to delivery of hypodermic needles, large marijuana seizures, large containers containing liquids.
Needles NEVER go to Police Lab unless involved in a major Felony charge other than CPCS or CSCS.
*All property will be delivered to Boro each day on First Platoon prior to 0100. If exigent circumstances exist, DO must obtain approval from the CO/DC to not comply with this procedure.

When conducting a vehicle inventory search, a UMOS will force open a trunk, or glove compartment, with minimal amount of damage unless?
1- Reasonably suspect the item contains:
Weapons, Explosives, Hazardous Materials, or Contraband.
2- Contents in plain view
3- Consent from owner to break open locked item.
If owner doesn’t consent, need a search warrant.
Remove all valuables and invoice on a separate PCI.
Property of little value (old clothes, cassettes, vehicle parts, etc) should be listed in the UMOS’ Activity Log and cross referenced to the PCI covering any valuables removed.
When photographing stolen evidence vehicles after arrest made for GLA, CPSP Vehicle, UUV AND the vehicle was not used in any crime or criminal transaction other than the vehicle theft, what will UMOS do?
AO
1- Take one set of photos for DA/Corp Counsel AND One set for every defendant arrested. (4 perps= 5 sets of photos)
Vehicle may then be released to the owner without a release for the DA/Corp Counsel . All photos will be delivered to DA/Corp Counsel
2- Have DA sign Activity Log as receiving photos
3- Notify owner that vehicle can be released at station house.
Note: If an arrest involves an adult and a juvenile, a set of photos must be taken for DA AND Corp Counsel.
Vehicles unable to be driven to command will be Rotowed. Photos taken at scene or AO will direct tow driver to remove vehicle to command for photos facility prior to removal to tow facility.
Vehicles will remain at command for 48 hours pending owner arrival. If owner cannot retrieve, vehicle will be Rotowed to tow facility and remain for 30 days before being moved to the pound.
What vehicles do not qualify for RoTow?

In what order will UMOS process a firearm and firearm related evidence?
Firearm includes starter pistols, zip gun, air gun, simulated firearm such as toy gun/imitation pistol.
List on Invoice, in following order:
- Firearm
- Magazine
- Chambered cartridge (list caliber)
- All other cartridges (from magazine, cylinder) that are same caliber
- All other cartridges that are different caliber
- Silencer (state if attached or not)
Note: Mark rounds as follows: Initial, consecutive numbers LB1, LB2
Chambered round- mark bullet portion, not the shell casing
Remaining rounds from firearm-mark bullet portion
Fire bullet gets marked on bottom, not the side
Shell casings get marked on the inside.
All get separate envelopes and write where recovered from with unique sequential initials and numbers.

8oz or more, or too large to fit inside narco locker, or KHAT, will be invoiced at command and DO have PTR prepared with 2 copies of PCI and 2 copies of PTR

How will Found Property be processed and recorded?
10 Dollars or more must be reported to and deposited with police.
If coming into possession property found in NYC Subway system, other than USC or contraband, the property will be delivered to NYC Transit Railroad Clerk.

Prepare Collision Info/Ackn Found Property form and give to finder.
Who will the UMOS Notify whenever UMOS seizes, or expects to seize, evidence consisting of a computer used to commit a crime, or is used to store evidence?
