Who is considered an aided?
ID SLAM A DARN child not involved in a MV Accident, Bicycle (PAR), or a prisoner (Medical Treatment Form)
Injured
Dead
Sick
Lost
Adult req care BBC person caring for them died/arrested/hospitalized
Mentally Ill
Child who is:
Abandoned
Destitute
Abused
Runaway
Neglected
What is considered Routine Sick At Home?
Requires ONLY an Activity Log entry if aided is at ANY residence (they can be in any home, not necessarily their own) AND: IC No PAIN
Identified Conscious No Police services required Adults, dependent or uncared for children in household Investigation needed Notification required
Note: Ascertain that an ambulance is coming and resume patrol
What is considered Routine Sick In A Nursing Home?
UMOS will NOT respond to SICK cases (Cold, fever) in nursing homes.
When an elderly is C.I.D. (Cardiac, Injury, DOA) in a nursing home, a UMOS will respond to the nursing home, prepare and AIDED Report, and make notifications required.
When must a UMOS have relatives/friends of an Aided notified?
When Aided is Hospitalized or Dies.
Who will a UMOS request, in non-life threatening situations, when there’s a difference of opinion as to treatment options for an Aided between family and EMS?
Request Patrol Supervisor and EMS Supervisor to the scene.
Pending arrival of EMS, who can the UMOS allow to treat a sick/injured person?
Emergency Medical Tech (EMT)
Doctor
Paramedic.
If such person volunteers his services, and UMOS reasonably believes the volunteer is a professional.
Medical attention should take place, if possible, under UMOS observation.
When emergency is under control, request ID from volunteer, and write pedigree info in Activity Log and under Details of Aided Report.
Who gets additional notification in regards to certain Aided? Check off Dept Notification
- Pct Youth Officer (Child Temp Resident Pct)- If uncared for child is left with friends, neighbors, relatives, not residing in household.
- ESU if CPR is administered by MOS
- Harbor if person injured or killed in boating collision or aided on an island inaccessible to a patrol pct.
What is considered an Unidentified Person in regards to an Aided case?
Subject of an Aided/Collision case AND is:
- Unable to ID self or info cannot be determined
- Admitted to hospital, or child in shelter, whose relatives or friends cannot be located or not at given address
- Actually or apparently under 18 and refuses to ID self or give his home address
- Dead Human body and true name and address unknown, or if known, the relatives or friends cannot be located
Note: If unidentified/collision Vic is 7-15, prepare a Juvi Report
In a homicide case, who will the DO direct to report to the morgue at 0900 hours, the next day?
Direct officer who discovered the body in a homicide case to report to the morgue at 0900 the next day, to ID the body to TWO Medical Examiners.
Assign officer first on the scene, or another officer who can ID the body and is NOT RDO, if reporting officer is not available.
- If reporting officer is available but is RDO, reporting officer still goes.
- A body offensive to public decency may be removed from a public place. If the death is Suspicious, must get permission for the M.E. AND Assigned Detective.
If person dies as a direct result of police action, the UMOS involved in or witnessing the incident WILL NOT be assigned to ID the body at the morgue. Assign another member who can ID.
What form will a civilian Aux PO, School Crossing Guard, fill out, in own handwriting, fill out relating to LOD Injury?
Employee’s Notice of Injury.
If member unable to do so, the patrol Supervisor will do so and submit reports to Commanding Officer.
DO
- CLE
- CO/DC if Auxiliary dies or likely to die
- Operations and APO Supervisor
- Boro if member dies.
Who will the DO notify when notified by Dept of Correction of a suspicious death or suicide in a DOC facility?

Note: UMOS assigned to duty in uniform will NOT respond to Correction facility.
Record all calls to M.E. in Telephone Record
*Notifications will not be made to relatives of an inmate who died in a DOC facility unless requested to do so by Correction Supv
What will UMOS do if a child, 16 or younger, falls from the window of any building, regardless of whether injury or death results?
UMOS
1. Prepare Dept of Health, Child Window Fall Report
Immediately fax to DOH, Mail original copy to DOH
2. Prepare Aided Report
Who will an AED Defibrillator be administered to?
The AED will only be attached to an unconscious adult patient after it has been confirmed that the patient is NOT breathing and has NO pulse.
DO
- After MOS has used AED, telephone ESU Desk and obtain an AED/CPR log number and enter in Details section of Aided Report.
- Schedule an appointment and ensure AED is delivered to ESUAED Coordinator.
Command Training Sgt is the liaison with ESUAED coordinator
*Once an AED is placed on an aided, the Department considers this utilized, even if a shock is not administered.
Who may disturb a Dead Human body or its effects?
TED the MD from DC
Technician/Investigator from Highway District
ESU, if in subway tunnel or on tracks
Doctor, paramedic, EMT (caution not to disturb evidence)
Medical Examiner or assistant
District Attorney or assistant
DB/Squad
Crime Scene Unit
