What conclusions can we draw from the Savior’s teachings on marriage found in Matthew 19?
” For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh…What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder… Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so”
What does it mean to “cleave” to a spouse?
Be completely loyal, trust and rely on one another
What are the three keys of the Melchizedek priesthood?
1- key to administer the gospel
2 -key to the mysteries of God
3- key to the power of godliness (through ordinances)

Key to the gathering of Israel and the restoration of the lost ten tribes (Moses)

Define a covenant.
a covenant is a sacred, enduring promise between God and man. In a covenant God sets the terms, That is, God determines the requirements and the blessings that will follow if we accept and live up to the terms of the covenant
What is the covenant of salvation? What is the covenant of exaltation?
Baptism is the covenant of salvation
?? the covenant of exaltation is either the marriage sealing or New and Everlasting Covenant of marriage
What is the role of priesthood keys in eternal covenants and ordinances?
Essential for performing ordinances that lead us to make covenants. Had to be restored for the ordinances to take place in our day (i.e. sealing)
Explain the difference between being a “therefore” and a “however” person.
Packer “Therefore or However” story is he didn’t join a group because they said “they were members of the church, however…”
however= partial commitment
therefore= complete commitment, you act on your beliefs
“They knew… therefore they did forsake all their sins” (3 Nephi 5:1-3)

A sacred, formal act performed by the authority of the priesthood

Baptism, Confirmation, Priesthood Ordination, Endowment (w/Initiatory), Sealing
What are the “terms” and “blessings” of the baptismal covenant?
terms: take upon us the name of christ, keep his commandments, remember Him always
Blessings: remission of sins, spirit to be with us
What is the symbolism of being baptized by immersion?
Burial of fallen man and resurrection coming forth as a new creature in Christ
What is the significance of being baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost?
covenant of salvation must have all 3 godhead members sign off on it- has the full power of all three to help in those processes
What are the two purposes of confirmation?
1) become a member of the church and 2) to receive the gift of the holy ghost
What is the Holy Spirit of Promise and what is its role with covenants and ordinances?
