1d. Lymph Nodes of the Neck (only) Flashcards
Which set of lymph nodes drain the face and scalp?
superficial lymph nodes
collection of LNs along EJV which receive lymph from posterior and posterolateral regions of scalp => drains into deep cervical nodes
superficial cervical lymph nodes
- collection of nodes along the internal jugular veins
- divides into upper and lower deep cervical nodes
deep cervical lymph nodes
most superior node in upper deep cervical @ C3-C4
(near posterior belly of digastric m.)
jugulodigastric
associated w/ lower deep cervical nodes, located @ C6
(inferior to tendon of omohyoid m.)
jugulo-omohyoid m.
drain posterior scalp and neck
occipital lymph nodes
drain posterolateral half of scalp
mastoid lymph nodes
drain anterior auricle, anterolateral scalp, upper half of face
pre-auricular and parotid lymph nodes
follows facial artery, drains parts of gingivae, teeth, and tongue, upper lip, and lateral lower lip
submandibular lymph node
drains center part of lower lip, chin, floor of mouth, tip of tongue, and lower incisors of teeth
submental lymph node
5 groups of superficial lymph nodes
- occipital
- mastoid
- pre-auricular/parotid
- submandibular
- submental
mnemonic: The superficial LN “mopps”.
drainage from occipital and mastoid nodes pass where?
superficial cervical nodes along the EJV
drainage from pre-auricular, parotid, submandibular, and submental nodes pass where?
to deep cervical nodes
- Where are the superficial cervical lymph nodes located?
- Where do they receive lymph from?
- Where do they drain?
- along the EJV
- from posterior and posterolateral regions of scalp
- deep cervical nodes
Where are the deep cervical lymph nodes located?
along the IJV
