18
Q

anxiety/emo

A

impact SNS> produce hormone response that affect vascular

19
Q

difference of more than ______ mmHg may indicate _____

A

5-10, obstruction of arterial flow to one arm

20
Q

systolic reading below 90 or diastolic below 60 may indicate…

A

early shock

21
Q

norm BP in adult

A

<14/60-90

22
Q

norm BP in older adult

A

<150/60-90

23
Q

standard position for BP

A

sitting

-supine has lower reading

24
Q

absence of pulsation

A

internal/external obstruction

25
Q

pt’s head should face __ when palpating the carotid

A

towards the hand

26
Q

abnormal carotid readings + exceptions

A

> 90 unless anxious, smoking, recently exercising
<60
50 sometimes athletes
-bruits (obstruction causing turbulance)

27
Q

carotid landmarks

A
  • inferior to angle of jaw

- medial to sternoclaidomastoid muscle

28
Q

carotid instructions

A
  • pt face hand
  • ask to hold breath for several secs to decr tracheal sounds
  • use diaphragm + bell
29
Q

edema

A
  • obstruction of lymph system
  • right sided HF
  • if only in 1 leg, may indicate occlusion of large vein
30
Q

ulnar pulses

A

NOT necessary to palpate bs so deep

31
Q

radial pulse landmark

A

above thumb

32
Q

brachial pulse landmark

A

medial to bicep tendon

33
Q

epitrochlear lymph node landmark

A

sides of elbow

-grooves bw biceps + triceps

34
Q

dilated/constricted vessel on legs

A

D: red
C: pale

35
Q

rusty discoloration over anterior tibial w skinintact

A

venous disease

36
Q

how to check lower extremity temp

A

move fr feet + upward

cool: constric
warm: dilated

37
Q

vaicosities

A

distended veins

  • freq occur in anterolateral aspect of thigh +lower leg
  • calf
38
Q

tenderness + inflammation in lower legs

A

phlebitis esp if redness + swelling is present

39
Q

how to test for length of varicose vein + competency of valves

A

manual compression test

  • pt stand
  • palpate lower part of varicose vein w 2 fingers
  • at same time, compress vein atleast 15-20cm higher w fingers of other hand
40
Q

manual compression test readigns

A

competent valves: absent pulsation beneath lower fingers

41
Q

lymph nodes larger than __ are abnormal

A

1cm

42
Q

leg sites for pulse

A

femoral (hip)
popliteal (behind knee)
dorsalis pedis (dosum of foot)
posterior tibial (outer ankle)

43
Q

how to assess for arterial supply of legs + feet

A
  • pt remains supine
  • lift legs 12 in above HR
  • pt point + flex feet for 60 sec to drain venous blood
  • skin will be blanched bc only arterial blood is present
  • pt sits + dangles feet
  • color should return in 10 seconds
  • superficial veins hsould return 15 seconds
  • if no color return, may indicate arterial insufficiencty
44
Q

leg sites for pitting edema check

A
  • tibia
  • behind medial malleolus
  • over dorsum
