why does environmental change occur
because of a shift in environment which causes organisms to need to change in order to survive
when does environmental adaption happen
when there’s a shift in the environment but not too big so the organisms can js change a little bit bc there should alr be some that are pretty similar to what best suits the environment
when does extinction occur
when there’s a BIG shift in the environment so all the organisms die bc nobody is fit so there needs to be a whole new species that is fit for the changed environment

the idea that environments and life in them change over time from when there was none life to when there’s alot

primary and secondary
primary ecological succession
go from no life to life forming
example of primary succession
place where lava rock hardens –> life grows from no life
secondary succession
when there was a community but then there was a disaster so new life needs to form
does secondary succession make an exact replica of the community before there was a disaster
not always –> there can be change
climax community
ecological succession that causes one particular species to become steady over a period of time
keystone species
an organism that helps define an entire ecosystem so without it an ecosystem would not survive
