1.24 The Short-Term Effects Of Exercise On The Muscular System Flashcards
What happens to muscles if working aerobically?
Lactic acid production will be low
What happens to the muscles if working anaerobically?
Blood leaving the muscles will contain lower levels of oxygen and higher levels of carbon dioxide and lactic acid, if the muscle work anaerobically
What does a build up of lactic acid result in?
Muscle fatigue
What is muscle fatigue?
Th reduction in the ability of a muscle to produce force
When is lactic acid formed?
Lactic acid is a by-product formed when the body is exercising anaerobically at high intensity.
What is created when muscle work anaerobically?
An oxygen debt
Why does the cardiovascular and respiratory system continue to work hard after exercise?
To repay the oxygen debt and replenish your muscles with oxygen.
They slowly return back to normal as the body recovers
