1.20 Anaerobic Exercise Flashcards
When is anaerobic energy production used?
When intensity of activity is high and muscular contractions need to be powerful and fast, oxygen cannot be processed quickly enough for body to use it
Do you still have to breathe during anaerobic energy production?
Yes, just because body producer energy anaerobically, without oxygen, this doesn’t mean you don’t breathe.
It simply means muscle contractions are happening to rapidly for oxygen to be delivered in time to be used
Why can’t anaerobic energy production be sustained over a long period of time?
Because lactic acid (a by-product of anaerobic energy production) builds up in the muscles, so they become fatigued and cannot function properly.
Therefore a person will need to rest before they can produce another burst of high-intensity anaerobic work so that their anaerobic energy system can recover
Give some examples of anaerobic activities
100m or 200m sprint
Short sharp activities
High jump
What is the fuel source for anaerobic energy production?
Carbohydrates
What is the equation of anaerobic energy production?
Carbohydrates->
Glucose=ENERGY+Lactic Acid
