What are the 6 rules to optimise training and avoid injury?
- Make sure training programme is designed using principles of training to avoid overuse injuries. E.g. tennis elbows and golfers elbow.
- Make sure you understand and follow all the rules of an activity during play
- Make sure you use appropriate protective clothing and equipment during play/participation
- Always check equipment before use to make sure it is in good condition.
- Always check facilities before use to make sure there are no hazards, such as broken glass on a playing field
- Always warm up and cool down properly

What is concussion?
The sudden but short-lived loss of mental function that occurs after a blow or other injury to the head
What are the symptoms of concussion?
.Headaches
.Dizziness
.Nausea/vomiting
.Seeing stars or blurry vision
.Unconsciousness
.Confusion immediately after injury
.Temporary loss of memory
What is a fracture?
A fracture is a broken bone.
What are the two types of fractures and what are they?
Open fracture: where the broken bone penetrates the skin
Closed fracture: where the broken bone does not penetrate the skin. The symptoms of a closed fracture include bruising, swelling, deformity and pain, especially if you try to put any weight on the site of injury, and being unable to move the affected part of your body.
Seek immediate medical attention, if you believe you have a fracture
What is a dislocation?
Bones are dislocated (displaced) at a joint.
What are the symptoms of a dislocation?

.Pain (especially when you put weight on the area)

What is a strain?
The muscle or tendon - the connective tissue that attaches muscles to bone - is stretched too much or tears.
What are the symptoms of strains?
.Pain
.Swelling

.Weakness in affected area

An overuse injury, caused by overusing muscles and tendons attached to your elbow and used to straighten your wrist.
What are the symptoms of tennis elbow?
.Pain on the outside of your upper forearm (near elbow) pain gets worse if you straighten elbow
What is golfers elbow?
An overuse injury, caused by overusing the muscles and tendons attached to your elbow and used to flex your wrist.
What are the symptoms of golfers elbow?
.Pain on the inside of your upper forearm, near your elbow, gets worse as you flex
