1.15 The Structure Of The Respiratory System And The Composition Of Air Flashcards
What is the path of oxygen when it first enters body from breathing?
Nose->Pharynx->Larynx->Trachea->Bronchi->Broncioles->Alveoli->Bloodstream
What is the trachea?
The tube which branches off into the 2 bronchi
What are the bronchi?
Two tubes which branch off from the trachea which have lots of bronchioles leading off of them
What are the bronchioles?
Small branches off the bronchi which alveoli are attached to
What are the alveoli?
The place where gaseous exchange happens. Connected to bronchioles
What are the muscles on the outside of the lungs?
Intercostal muscles
What is the muscle beneath the lungs?
The diaphragm
What is the purpose of the respiratory system?
.To bring oxygen into the body to produce energy aerobically
.To expel carbon dioxide when it is created in muscles when we exercise
What is the composition of inhaled air?
78% Nitrogen
21% Oxygen
0.03% Carbon Dioxide
0.97% Other gases
What is the composition of exhaled air?
78% Nitrogen
16% Oxygen
4% Carbon Dioxide
2% Other gases
