What are long bones?
Bones that are longer than they are wide.
Play key part in leverage and movement
E.g. femur
What are short bones?
Bones that are box-like in shape.
Designed to be weight bearing.
E.g. tarsals
What are flat bones?
Thin, plate bones that act like a shell. They provide protection and a large surface area to which muscle can attach.
E.g. cranium
What are irregular bones?
Unusually shaped bones for a unique purpose.
These also provide protection and a large surface to which muscle can attach.
