05d. Distance, Displacement, Projectile Motion Flashcards
Define distance
Distance is the path travelled from start to finish, regardless of direction
Define displacement
Displacement is the difference between the initial position and final position of an object
Angular Distance
Equals the angular distance covered by a rotating body
Angular displacement
Equals the change between the initial and final position of a rotating object
Define Speed
Speed is the rate of motion.
Define velocity
Velocity measures the displacement an object experiences over time.
List the factors that influence the air resistance a projectile will be subject to.
Mass, shape, surface area, nature of surface area, gravity
List the three factors that effect projectile motion
Height, angle and speed of release
What is difference between distance and displacement?
Distance is a measure of path travelled whereas displacement is a measure that compares starting to finishing position.
In a 400m sprint around the oval what is the distance and displacement?
Distance = 400m
Displacement = 0m
If the landing height is lower than the release height then angle of release should be?
lower than 45 degrees
If the landing height is higher than the release height then angle of release should be?
greater than 45 degrees
If the landing height and release height are similar, what should the angle of release be?
approx. 45 degrees
Define Acceleration
Acceleration is the rate of change of the velocity of an object
