01e. Acute Responses - Vascular Flashcards
Define AVO2 Difference
The difference between the amount of oxygen in the arteries and the veins. It indirectly measures how much oxygen the muscles use.
Define venous return
The amount of blood returned to the heart via the veins
What does haemoglobin do
carry oxygen in the blood
What do the capillaries do
supply tissues with oxygenated blood and carry blood containing waste away from tissues
What is the amount of blood returned to the heart via the veins
venous return
What carries oxygen in the blood
haemoglobin
What are the smallest blood vessels that supply tissues with oxygenated blood and carry blood containing waste away from tissues
capillaries
What is the movement of gases from areas of high concentration to areas of low concentration.
Gaseous Exchange
What is the amount of oxygen taken in, transported to and used by the working muscles.
VO2/O2 uptake
What is the amount of times the heart beats per minute
Heart Rate
What is the amount of blood pumped out of the left ventricle per beat
Stroke Volume
What is the amount of blood pumped out of the left ventricle per minute
Cardiac Output
What is the difference between the amount of oxygen in the arteries and the veins. It indirectly measures how much oxygen the muscles use.
AVO2 Difference
What is amount of blood returned to the heart via the veins
Venous return
What is the role of RBC?
To transport oxygen around the body
