Adverse Effects

A
  • Drowsiness
  • Extrapyramidal reactions (dystonia, oculogyric, akathisia-motor restlessness)
  • Hyper/hypotension
  • Decreased seizure threshold
  • Respiratory depression

Notes

A
  • Should not be taken with MAO (mono-amine oxidase) inhibitor class of antidepressants such as Marplan, Nardil, Parnate, or Matulane, since the effects of both drugs add to each other and lead to complications
  • Avoid exposure of the medication to sunlight
