Mechanism of Action
A
- Blocks angiotensin converting enzymes, preventing formation of angiotensin II
- Dilates coronary and systemic arteries
- Decreases peripheral vascular resistance
- Improves cardiac output

- Hypotension
- Hypersensitivity
- Pregnancy

Adverse Effects
A
- Cardiovascular: hypotension, chest pain, hyperkalemia
- Gastrointestinal: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite
- Neurological: dizziness, headache

Administration
A
- Adult: .625-1.25 mg IV
- Pediatrics: Safety has not been established.

Special Considerations
A
- May cause hyperkalemia in patients taking potassium supplements or medications that increase potassium levels.
