Mechanism of Action
A
- Binds the opioid receptor & blocks the effects of narcotics

Indications
A
- Narcotic OD
- Reversal of narcotics used for procedure-related anesthesia

Contraindications
A
- Known sensitivity to naloxone, nalmefene or naltrexone

Adverse Effects
A
- Nausea, vomiting, restlessness, tachycardia, hypertension, tremulousness, seizures, cardiac arrest, narcotic withdrawal.

Administration
A
- Adult: 0.4-2mg IV/IO/ET/IM/SubQ or 2 mg intranasally.
- Higher doses may be required for overdoses of synthetic narcotics
- Repeat as necessary.

Special Considerations
A
- Use with caution in patients with supraventricular arrhythmias or other cardiac disease, head trauma, or brain tumors.
