-60-63 days after copulation

if the delay is too long, oxytocin injections by a vet may be needed

-incision in abdomen
-bring up uterine horn and remove pups from the uterus
-placenta removed off pups
-repeat with second horn
-estrus around 4-5 months after for 8/10 and a few of them needed procedure again
natural delivery
-remove the amniotic sac, if needed
-cut off umbilical cord
-discard of some placentas if litter is large
-dry pup off and check it briefly
-pup nurses
-can have breeched births

-can take 8-12 hours for large litters

-warmth for at least 24-48 hours (cant thermoregulate well)
-dryness (wet bedding leads to being chilled
whelping problems
-small litters have higher risk of problems (pups grow larger, common in Frenchies, Bostons, chihuahuas, and pugs
-insufficient oxytocin released
-in utero death
-puppy position
