Cat conformation Flashcards
Dwarfism
-shortened limbs
-schondroplastic dwarfism
-short-legged condition
-gene is autosomal dominant and homozygous lethal
-dont know gene in cats
-no spinal issues/weaknesses
tail length
-manx bob tail homozygous lethal
-skeletal disorder associated
-japanese bobtail
-dominant
-characteristic kinked tail
different cat ear mutations
-tuffed (Maine coon)
-curled
-folded
Scottish fold
-apex of the ear is bent forward because of a defect in cartilage development
-cartilage defect occurs throughout the body
-dominant inheritance
-mutation in transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily V member 4 (TRPV4) gene
-homozygote may have a crippling overgrowth of cartilage
burmese head defect
-traditional head conformation of burmese cat AA becomes brachycephalic with one copy of mutation Aa
-kittens with the defect (aa) do not survive for very long in born alive
-mutation in 5.7% of population
-ALX1 gene- 4 aa deletion
polydactyly
-normally 5 toes on forepaw, 4 on hind paws
-may occur on 1-4 feet but normally occurs on forepaws
-“twisty” phenotype- polydactyly with other skeletal deformities
