Week 8 anatomy review (brain) Flashcards
what are the 4 lobes of the cerebrum
frontal lobe
parietal lobe
occipital lobe
temporal lobe
what does the frontal lobe do
problem solving
emotional traits
reasoning
speaking
voluntary motor activity
what does the parietal lobe do
body orientation, sensation, knowing left from right
what does the occipital lobe do
vision
color perception
what does the temporal lobe do
understanding language, behaviour, memory, hearing
what is contralateral processing
basically sensory and motor functions are controlled by opposite sides of the brain
what does the cerebellum do
controls fine motor movement, balance, and allows brain to determine limb movement
which part of the brain controls breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, alertness
the brain stem (v important for sustaining life)
what does the hypothalamus do
its the main connection between the endocrine system and the CNA
it also controls temp
what does the thalamus do
relays sensory info to the cerebral cortex
what does the cerebrospinal fluid do
its cushioning for the brain and spinal cord, we use it to diagnose various diseases
what are the ventricles in the brain
theyre basically little cavities within the brain that are filled with cerebrospinal fluid
what are the 3 protective layers of the brain going from outer to inner mist
dura mater
arachnoid
pia mater (adheres to surface of the brain
where is CSF found within the 3 layers of the brain
in the subarachnoid space which is the space between the arachnoid and Pia mater
where is the blood brain barrier
its a wall between the blood capillaries and the brain tissue
