Happens w/in Seconds
the Vasoconstriction of a damaged vessle

3
Q

Cold temperatures help smooth muscle do what

A

Cold temperatures help smooth muscle constrict

Hot temperatures work against and cause smooth muscle to dilate

Q

How is surface area a factor in vascular spasm

A

When you cut with a sharp object there is less surface area making it harder to constrict

10
Q

What are the steps of platelets formation

A
  1. PLatelets stick to exposed collagen
  2. PLatelets degranulate (turn inside out) & Thromboxane A is released
  3. Thromboxane causes platelets to stick to other platelets which results in a platelet plug

16
Q

Where is Vitamin K made

A

By bacteria in intesitnes

17
Q

What are the 5 steps in Coagulation

A
  1. Damage Occurs
  2. Damaged Perivascular cells release Thromboplastin
  3. Plasma Proteins convert Thromboplastin into Prothrombin Activatior
  4. Prothrombin Activator converts Prothrombin into Thrombin
  5. Thrombin converts Fibrinogen into Fibrin
  6. Fibrin forms blood clot
18
Q

Thromboplastin is normally found where

A

In Perivascular

19
Q

True or False

Thrombin is normally found in blood

A

False thrombin is only found if there is damage

20
Q

When is Prothrombin Activator found in blood

A

Only when there is damage

21
Q

True or False

Prothrombin is always found in blood and is an inactive protein

A

True always found in blood

True is an inactive protein

22
Q

True or False

Fribrinogen is always found in blood and is an inactive protein

A

True Fribrinogen is always found in blood and is an inactive protein

23
Q

What are 2 inactive proteins always found in blood

A

Firbrinogen and Prothrombin

24
Q

What does Fibrin do

A

forms blood clot by
trapping red blood cells
traps leukocytes WBCs
traps platelets

25
Q

What is plasmin

A

Enzyme that destroys fibrin

26
Q

What is plasminogen

A

Inactive protein in blood that platelets convert into plasmin to destroy fibrin to shrink blood clot

27
Q

What is Fibrinolysis

A

Process of breaking down Fibrin to shrink a blood clot

28
Q

What drugs influence blood clotting/ coagulation

A

Procoagulants - help form clots

Anticoagulatns - work against clots

29
Q

What is Coumadin

A

aka Warfarin
Anticoagulant
Block Vitamin K synthesis

30
Q

What is Heparin

A

Anticoagulant
Prevents prothrombin from becoming thrombin
Used in surgery to keep blood vessels open
Needs come pre-hepranised to prevent clots
