week 5/1 - LARGE UPPER LIMB NERVES Flashcards
List the large nerves of the UL
- axillary
- radial
-musculatneous - median
- ulna
my auntie raped my uncle
identify the positions of these nerves
musculocutaneous > lateral
axillary
posterio
radial
posterior
median
medial
ulnar
medial
where does the axillary nerve arise from
- posterior cord, segments C 5 6
where does it exit the axilla from
through the quadrangular space and enters the shoulder region
the muscles it innervates - axillary vein
deltoid and teres minor
axillary nerve test
shoulder joint abduction
where does the radial artery arise from
- posterior cord, segments C 5 6 7 8
where does it exit the axilla from (radial vein)
on latissimus dorsi, passes initially between the long and lateral head of triceps than in the radial groove
where does the radial vein emerge
between brachiakis and brachioradialis in the cubital fossa, the deep muscular branch passes in supinator of the posterior compartment of the forearm
where does the superficial branch of the radial vein travel to
Along the forearm beneath the brachioradialis with the radial artery then crosses the lateral hand region to the end on the dorsum of the hand
muscles the radial vein innervates
all the posterior and forearm muscles
cutaneous (radial vein)
posterior arm and forearm, lateral dorsum of the hand and part of the thenar eminence
major branches of the radial vein
muscular, posterior cutaneous of the arm and forearm, deep, superficial, posterior interosseous
radial vein test
elbow joint extension, wrist joint extension and thumb extension
MUSCULOCUTANEOUS NERVE
where does the MCN arise from
- lateral cord, segments c 5 6 7
where does it pass in the axillary
passes through coracobrachialis, then it travels in the anterior compartment of the arm laterally between brachailis and biceps, at the elbow it lies in the lateral roof of the cubital fossa
where does the MCN then travel to after passing the axillary
- lateral side of the forearm as the lateral cutaneous nerve of the forearm
muscles MCN innervates
all anterior compartment
test of MCN
Flexion of elbow joint
MEDIAN NERVE
where does the median nerve arise from
both medial and lateral cords
where does the median nerve proceed to
- down the arm in the anterior compartment between brachialis and biceps along with the brachial artery, at the elbow it lies in the cubital fossa medial to the artery
where does the median nerve pass through
pronator teres and along the forearm beneath FDS
which muscles does the median nerve innervate
= all the anterior compartment except for FCU
ULNA NERVE
where does ulna nerve arise from
medial cord of the brachial plexus
where is it located and where does it travel to - ulna nerve
- initially in the anterior compartment of the arm
- passes > into the posterior compartment then it travels onto the medial head of triceps, at the elbow it lies behind the medial epicondyle
where does it pass through -ulna
through FCU, and proceeds down the forearm beneath FCU along with the radial artery
NERVES BRANCHING AND INNERVATING
which nerves innervate the arm
- upper lateral > axillary n.
- lower lateral and posterior > radial nerve, MCN and medial nerve
which nerve innervates the forearm
- lateral > musculocutaneous nerve
medial MCNF
posterior > radial nerve
