- group of diseases that directly affect the structural or functional ability of the myocardium & causes it to become enlarged, thick, and/or rigid

- SOB
- dysrhythmias
- decreased CO

- treating the underlying cause
- controlling HF & HTN

what is treatment for cardiomyopathy
A
- cardiac meds according to cause and type
* not rlly any treatment, just supportive*

list what should be taught to a pt with cardiomyopaty (10)
A
- take all meds
- low salt diet
- 6-8 glasses water/day (unless restricted)
- healthy weight and diet
- avoid alcohol, caffeine, diet pills, cold med
- balance activity and rest
- check w physician for activity guidelines
- see doctor if S&S of HF
- notify HCP before any dentist or invasive procedure (risk of IE)
- family members should know CPR (high chance of cardiac arrest)
