Week 3: Ellemers, de Vries & Terwel sustainability or profitability Flashcards
What is corporate greenwashing?
the idea that a company deliberately frames its activities as ‘green’ in order to look environmentally friendly
Organizations’ motives to participate in CSR can be divided into 2 categories, name them and their meaning
- public serving motives –> org concerns for the collective interest
- Firm serving motives –> concern for benefits for the org itself
What is dispositional skepticism?
An individual’s general tendency to doubt the credibility of various forms of organizational communication
What is true about CSR and potential view of greenwashing based on the motive (economic, environmental, no motive)
economic = less risk of seen as greenwashing
environmental = neutral but higher than economic
no motive = neutral but higher than economic
alignment here is key; don’t pretend you’re something that you’re not
