what are affirmative action programs/policies?
Efforts by the organization aimed at ensuring individuals from traditionally excluded groups (women/minority) are proportionally represented int he workforce and managerial positions
Includes hiring/promotion policies that in some way favor minorities over majorities
What are the 4 general types of AAPS?
- Opportunity enhancement (assistance to target group members prior to selection, for example focused recruitment)
- Equal opportunity (no negative weight for minority members in recruitment)
- Tiebreak AAPS (target group is referenced if all other things equal)
- Strong preferential treatment AAPS (even with inferior qualities, minority is hired)
What personal characteristics determine support for AAP’s? (6)
- Belongingness to minority (belong means more support)
- Higher self interest (in own interest more support)
- Not being discriminated (support more)
- Believe in discrimination in general (support more)
- Believe in racism occurring (support more)
- Progressive, liberal voters support more
What can you tell that is important about how affirmative action plans (AAPs) are featured? (2)
- Generic vs specific (better to be specific)
- Provision of justification (explaining why AAPs are used has positive effects on support)
What are 6 was to increase support for affirmative action plans?
- Ensure AAP is perceived as fair
- Provide evidence-based reasons
- Transparent selection procedures
- Less prescriptive AAPS are more supported
- Move from general to specific AAP communications
- Define specific goals of AAP

Overt (beliefs in general)
Personality based (own believes and personality)
What can you tell about integrity tests (4)?
- Stable over time
- Reliable
- Valid (predictive absenteeism, turnover, job performance)
- useful in assessment, but only with other measures and tests
