WEEK 3 ARM Flashcards
What determines the “arm region”?
Deltoid to elbow
What is the cubital fossa?
Space on elbow (like axilla)
What is the name of the distinct groove between deltoid and pec region?
Deltopectoral groove (houses cephalic vein)
Arm is organized into what two compartments?
1) Anterior flexor compartment
2) Posterior extensor compartment (triceps)
Biceps brachii has how many heads? Which one is longer?
2, same length
How can you orient the biceps brachii heads on a donor?
Remember that Long is Lateral
Where are neurovascular bundles contained in the arm?
Medial aspect with fascia separations for protection
What is the biceps aponeurosis?
Tendinous sheet that wraps around the fascia on the medial aspect of forearm
What is the Biceps tendon used for?
Deep tendon reflex to confirm integrity of spinal chord (C5-C6 musculocutaneous nerve)
Does NOT test distal. No response means leasion or disease.
What is the primary flexor of arm?
Brachialis! (NOT biceps brachii)
What are the muscles deep to bicepsbrachii?
Coracobrachialis and brachialis
Brachialis artery bifurcates where?
At the cubital fossa
What does the brachialis artery bifurcate into?
Radial and ulnar arteries
Deep brachial artery comes off of the?
The brachial artery just past the teres major, goes posterior to supply blood to triceps
The brachial vein is deep or superficial?
deep
The cephalic and basilic vein is deep or superficial?
Superficial
What is the median cubital vein?
Forms a tributary between basilic and cephalic veins in cubital fossa
Musculocutaneous nerve contains fibers from?
C5-C6
Where is musculocutaneous nerve located?
Pierces corobrachialis and between biceps brachii and brachialis
Musculocutaneous nerve is all motor of the arm UNTIL?
It emerges lateral of cubital fossa, becomes lateral cutaneous nerve of forearm to carry sensation from lateral aspect of forearm
Radial nerve is all motor in triceps of arm until?
Has sensory branches in posterior arm/forearm and has a lot of sensation in hand
What is the superior border of cubital fossa?
Medial and lateral epicondyles
What is the medial border of cubital fossa?
Common forearm flexor attachment (pronator teres)
What is the lateral border of cubital fossa?
Forearm extensor attachment (brachioradialis)
What all can you see in cubital fossa?
Median cubital vein, median nerve, brachial artery, deep branch of radial nerve, biceps brachii tendon
Medial aspect =
Flexor
Lateral aspect=
Extensor
Radial nerve runs=
Lateral of cubital fossa aka lateral epicondyle (deep=motor; superficial= sensory)
Median nerve runs=
Medial epicondyle (so is brachial artery)
Where is a good place to draw blood?
Median cubital vein bc it is superficial/safe, on top of fascia and bicipital aponeurosis
